I was looking forward to this series as in Britain we don't have many good, dark and well weird dramas that become successful. Maybe Hex and that's about it. I am very disappointed with most of this so far. I think the acting is too 2D. The plot is interesting but all the sub plots are strange and not too intriguing and there are too many vying for screen time. What this lacks in substance also lacks in originality. I feel like it is a cross between Twin Peaks, The Stepford Wives and strangely enough A Town Called Eureka. It has so many convoluted and disjointed goings on it seemed to me it didn't really know where it was going. Its ironic that they stereotype the disturbed son as an Emo lookalike (a depressed youth often wearing black and into self inflicted pain) when he in fact comes across as the most annoying character and at points almost looks feminine. Either this is trying to appeal to a different audience or the writers really need to relax and not try too hard. Disappointing, what worked well with Life On Mars pretty much nosedives here. Don't expect another season. Also beware some horrendous accents. What also annoyed me was some of the camera-work. At points it zooms close up to actors faces so we can see every expression and hear every gasp. This may have sounded like a good idea, but at the end of the day, if someone is doing a good performance we can tell if thye are scared or not, the camera does not need to be shoved in their face. Too dark, dismal, boring after the 1st episode. Maybe after this fails someone will make a decent series for once, not a regurgitated bore - fest.
